The University of Rijeka is the second oldest and second largest university in Croatia. It comprises 1 academy, 4 university departments and 9 faculties, with a total of 137 study programmes. The University aims to become a research-based university with a distinct research profile, aiming towards sustainable development, and that provides effective education based on learning outcomes and the concept of lifelong education. It was the first Croatian university to have signed the Declaration of Commitment to the Charter and Code in 2010, and it was awarded the HR Excellence in Research. The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka was established in the year of 1960, and is on of its most successful members in terms of research, educational and financial results . It has 181 full time employees, out of which 81 are professors, and around 2300 students. The education and research activities at the Faculty cover 4 main areas: Computer science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture.
